The Colorado Buffaloes are mourning the loss of former assistant coach Bob Simmons, who passed away at the age of 77. Simmons was a key figure in the success of the Buffaloes' football program during his tenure from 1988 to 1994. Under head coach Bill McCartney, Simmons helped lead the team to three Big Eight Conference titles and the national championship in 1990. His coaching career also included a stint as head coach at Boulder High School from 2013 to 2015. Simmons mentored standout players like Alfred Williams and Kanavis McGhee, both of whom earned All-American honors. His impact extended beyond the field, as he was known for his dedication to his players and his role as a father figure. The Colorado Buffaloes community remembers Simmons not only for his coaching prowess but also for his character and influence on young athletes.
