The Colorado Buffaloes' 2027 recruiting class has taken a hit with the loss of running back Steven Alexis, who flipped his commitment to the Illinois Fighting Illini just nine days after announcing his decision to join the Buffaloes. Alexis, a three-star recruit, had built his hype on the back of a standout junior season with the Gibbs High School Gladiators in St. Petersburg, Florida, rushing for 1,113 yards and nine touchdowns. Colorado director of player personnel Darrius Darden-Box led the recruitment efforts for Alexis, with transfer running back Richard Young also playing a role in his official visit. New offensive coordinator Brennan Marion heavily prioritizes the run in his 'Go-Go' offense, and Alexis would have been a key part of that. The loss of Alexis leaves the Buffaloes without a running back commitment for the 2027 class, but they still have several other offensive commitments, including quarterback Andre Adams and wide receiver Jaiden Kelly-Murray. The Buffaloes will now shift their recruiting focus to land a new running back recruit, with Kylan Bobo emerging as a potential target. Colorado has been recruiting Bobo heavily since February, extending a scholarship offer to him on February 23 and hosting him on an official visit from June 12 to June 14. With their offensive line commitments in place, the Buffaloes remain an attractive destination for running back recruits in the 2027 class.
